PREVIEW: SCORCHERS LOOK FOR EIGHTH HOME WIN

Scorchers will look to complete the season sweep over the Plymouth Raiders when they face off on Sunday at Surrey Sports Park.

The teams have met on three occasions this season, playing twice in the league and also in the BBL Cup.
Scorchers defeated Plymouth in all three encounters and will look to do that again in front of the home crowd on Sunday. A win would make it eight wins in a row at Surrey Sports Park.

It will be the first time Creon Raftopoulos’ side have played at home since confirming their place in the BBL play-offs.

They narrowly defeated the Cheshire Phoenix on the road last week to confirm their place in the postseason for the second consecutive year.

Scorchers assistant coach Steve Crane is pleased that the team can return to action at home knowing their place in the play-offs is confirmed.

He said: “It was a great reward for the players who have been working so hard game by game to make the play-offs.

“We are just taking it one game at a time and once all of the regular season games are players we will focus on who we meet in the first round.

“We can’t change the way we play just because we’ve qualified with games to spare. It’s about maintaining our style of play through the season.”

Coach Crane also expressed his delight that Scorchers players are receiving individual accolades.

Josh Steel was in the BBL Team of the week for his 17 point performance off the bench against Cheshire while Tony
Hicks was named BBL Player of the month for the second consecutive time.

He added: “We have to be happy for our players to get individual recognition for their performances and they each understand that their teammates play a big part in helping them achieve those awards.

“As coaches it’s always great for our players to get recognition, especially when the team is winning.”
