Surrey Scorchers will welcome the Newcastle Eagles to Surrey Sports Park on Friday evening (7.30pm tip-off) for their British Basketball League home debut.
Surrey Scorchers vs Newcastle Eagles
Friday 25th September 2015
Arguably the benchmark team for the rest of the BBL, Fabulous Flournoy’s Eagles will be looking to secure a 7th play-off title this year to add to their glistening trophy cabinet.
One of the league’s most decorated coaches, Flournoy kept the core of his title winning squad in hand over the summer, including former Heat shooting guard Andrew Lasker and forward Charles Smith, who goes into his 15th season with the north-east outfit.
The Ones to Watch
Veteran Smith is not one to be taken lightly. The 39 year old forward isn’t showing any signs of slowing down after putting 652 points on the board for his side last season- his top scoring campaign to date.
Chicago-born Joe Chapman picked up a huge 106 defensive rebounds in his last season in the BBL and will be a threat against all sides this season.
Scorchers will have a full roster to choose from for tomorrow’s game, including Will Neighbour who received his long-awaited international clearance this week.
Fans will also get the chance to welcome US import Desmond Lee, who arrived in the UK this week ahead of Friday’s game.
Reigning champions the Newcastle Eagles kicked off their 2015/16 BBL season with a 78-85 win at Sheffield Sharks thanks to a 25 point haul by Charles Smith, including five 3-pointers.
Scorchers will also take a win into the game, after securing a BBL debut victory in the last few seconds of their game at Bristol Flyers last Saturday.
With over 400 tickets already sold for tomorrow night’s game, it’s looking like being a bumper crowd for the visit of the Newcastle Eagles.
Don’t forget that tickets are cheaper when pre-buying online, and it will also save fans queuing on the door! Internet sales end at 4.30pm on Friday (3 hours before tip-off).
