Preview: Form retention key ahead of Flyers clash

Scorchers will look to continue their unbeaten home run in the penultimate regular season game at Surrey Sports Park when Creon Raftopoulos’ side take on fellow playoff hopefuls Bristol Flyers on Sunday afternoon (2pm tip-off).

Scorchers have won their previous eight home games, a run that stretches back to the New Year’s Day victory over the London Lions.

The Bristol Flyers will be strengthened heading into the weekend as Head Coach Andreas Kapoulas will be back on the sidelines after coaching the England men’s basketball team at the Commonwealth Games.

Starting Center Mike Vigor is also back in the fray for Bristol after finishing fourth with Scotland on the Gold Coast.

This will be the teams’ final matchup of the season with the series tied at 1-1. Bristol broke the hearts of Scorchers fans back in November as they clawed back to win 86-85 at Surrey Sports Park.

Scorchers got their revenge three months later by winning 100-90 on the road against Brandon Boggs and the Flyers.

Heading into the matchup, fans favourite Gerald Robinson said: “It feels good that we have already qualified. We have ‘one team and one goal’ and one of those goals was to make the playoffs.

“I think the team has improved a lot since the start of the season. We were a new group at the beginning and it took a while for us to form into a cohesive unit.

“To see some of our guys improve right in front of my eyes has been great and that’s a credit to them.

“It doesn’t matter who we come up against in the Play Offs. Our goal is to finish as high as we can and we believe we can compete with whoever we come up against.”

Tickets for the game are available now from £11 adults, £8 juniors, with discounts for groups and families.

Don’t forget that fans can also head to the Sports Park early for the annual Brian Dux tournament, which will see local youth basketball teams including Bracknell Cobras, Farnbororough Phantoms, Surrey Rams and of course Scorchers Juniors go head-to-head in support of the former Guildford Heat player.

The action gets underway at 9am and entry is FREE.
