PLAY-OFF PREVIEW: ROCKS UP FIRST

Play-off basketball returns to Surrey Sports Park on Friday night as the Scorchers take on the Glasgow Rocks.

The sides finished fourth and fifth respectively in the BBL Championship Standings and will face off in the Quarter-Finals.

The Scottish outfit boast international talent, with no less than seven of their players part of the national team that finished fourth at the Commonwealth Games. Kieron Achara is also captain of the GB basketball team.

The Scorchers will not be fazed however having won their previous ten home games, a run that stretches back to New Year’s Day when they defeated the London Lions.

Glasgow finished fourth in the BBL standings and the most northern team in the BBL have a strong home record of their own, winning 12 of their 17 games at the Emirates Arena this season.

One of the five home defeats came at the hands of the Scorchers who defeated them 104-85 behind a dominant performance from Tony Hicks.

Scorchers beat Glasgow in two of their three matches this season, and Hicks believes the team can conquer the Rocks one again in play-off action.

He said: “We feel good going into this weekend. We know what we’re capable of and that we deserve to be in the playoffs, so there are no nerves at all.

“We did beat them in January but they have added a few pieces and are playing good basketball right now, but we like to focus on what our strengths are as a team.

“We want to dictate on defence, followed by push the tempo on offence.

“I think being at home first especially is very important for us. Our crowd has been a force all year and I’m sure it will be the same on Friday. If we can handle business at home, it will feel much better going into Sunday just knowing we need to finish the job.

“For myself I don’t feel any different heading into the playoffs. I’ll just continue to play the right way, hard, and taking what the defence gives me.

“We are a team that likes to play at a faster pace so as long as we get stops on the defensive end, we will continue to push the tempo.”

The winner of the Quarter-Final will progress to the semi-finals!
