University of Surrey students Mayo Adeyeye and Alex Koukouravas called up to Scorchers roster!

Surrey Scorchers are delighted to confirm University of Surrey students Mayo Adeyeye and Alex Koukouravas will be joining the BBL roster for the 2020-2021 season!

The pair are both studying for their Masters Degrees at the University, and will be splitting their time between studies and training with the Scorchers!

Adeyeye, 21, has experience playing in the NBL Division 2 with Essex and has made the move to Surrey to further his studies while continuing to develop as a basketball player.

Koukouravas, 22, is a Welsh international and returns to the University of Surrey after a placement year, and will link up with the Scorchers roster once again.

Mayo Adeyeye said: “I am studying for a Masters Degree in International Relations after previously studying at the University of Essex.

“The Scorchers was a big part of my decision to come here, along with the University being highly regarded.

“The opportunity to play with these guys is amazing, I like the family setting we have here.”

Alex Koukouravas added: “I’m back to study bio-chemistry.

“It’s really nice to be back with the guys.

“I do a lot of work with the University teams so it is a shame with Covid that is being postponed for the time being.

“We have a really good team this year so its good to be back.”

Scorchers Head Coach Creon Raftopoulos added: “We’ve had Alex around for some time so he knows how we do things.

“He is one of the top Welsh guards, so we are hoping that things will click into place for him this year and he will get more minutes on the court.

“With Mayo we came across him a year ago and he was interested in studying for his Masters here.

“He comes in and has some good Small Forwards ahead of him, but he has bought into the experience and battling and he is training hard.

“Hopefully we can get him up to speed and he will play a part in what we are trying to do this season.

“This partnership with the University of Surrey is continuing to grow and our key thing is to give young British talent an opportunity to play at the highest level and do what they love, while studying to get their degrees.”
