OWUMI: WE’VE GOT A RHYTHM NOW

Alex Owumi hailed the effort of the Scorchers team as they defeated his former side the London Lions 82-80 in a feisty new year’s day encounter.

Scorchers ran out a double digit lead in the first half, and held on late in the game to secure their first win in five attempts.

Despite failing to convert a field goal, Owumi’s six rebounds, five assists and four steals earned him a +/- of +13, meaning the team played their best when he was on the floor.

He said: “It was good to get back to winning ways, we wanted to start 2018 on a positive note.”

“December wasn’t too good for us but we bounced back. We have veterans to help us so we’ve
got a rhythm now so we have to carry on that.”

Owumi praised the team’s bright start to the game, lead by Gerald Robinson who scored 13 points in the opening quarter.

“We were hitting our shots, Gerald (Robinson) got really hot and he’s more than capable of hitting those shots. We’ve got to feed the hot hand and our defence was very good also.”

“We got a lot of stops and steals early and we only had one turnover that quarter which is a big plus.”
