OWUMI: WE GAVE THE FANS A GREAT GAME

Alex Owumi and Tony Hicks both expressed their delight as they won a ‘thrilling’ game at Surrey Sports Park against the Plymouth Raiders.

Scorchers brought the park to it’s feet with multiple big plays down the stretch from Tony Hicks and Josh Steel.

Alex Owumi kept his cool from the free-throw line with less than a second remaining in the game to make both shots as Scorchers saw out an 86-82 win.

Owumi said: “It was a great game, credit to Plymouth who played hard and took the lead in the fourth, but we didn’t back down.”

“I didn’t particularly have a good shooting game but I had to play defence and get the rebounds like I usually do. We gave the fans a great game today.”

Owumi also highlighted a late scare as Plymouth scored a late three-pointer with seconds left to cut the Scorchers’ lead to two points. Owumi’s free throws stretched the lead out of reach.

“In this league you can never sleep if you have a five or six point lead, you have to just keep on grinding it out.”

Hicks also praised Scorchers resilience as they held off multiple waves of Plymouth attack to win their third straight home game.

“It was good, it was an intense game.

“I think we showed a big part of us today, we fought really well and it’s something we lacked earlier in the season.

“We jumped out on them early today and it helped up propel forward towards the end.”

The win moves the Scorchers into fifth in the BBL standings with nine wins.
