Opposition View: London Lions

Scorchers return to Surrey Sports Park on Saturday to take on the British Basketball All-Star champions – the London Lions.

Vince Macaulay’s side are yet to pick up a victory in regular play after three matches, but will remain upbeat after finishing top of the BBL Standings last season, as well as being current holders of the BBL Cup.

Both teams will be looking to kickstart their cup campaign with a win at the Sports Park on Saturday.

The Lions roll into town with a wealth of talent, led by back-to-back BBL MVP Justin Robinson.

The 32-year-old has returned to the Lions for his third straight season in the BBL after being voted the best player in the league for the previous two years.

American forward Brandon Peel has enjoyed a strong start to his third year with the Lions, highlighted with a 35-point effort in their defeat to the Bristol Flyers last weekend.

Rumours continue to swirl if Love Island star Ovie Soko is signing for the London outfit.

The GB international spent the previous three years with Murcia in Spain before appearing on the reality show where he found fame overnight.

Last week he teased a possible move to the Lions on his personal Instagram account, although this speculation has not been backed-up with an official announcement from the team.

While the Lions have won the previous four encounters between the sides, Scorchers fans will remember Tony Hicks leading the home team to victory in the infamous New Year’s Day fixture in 2018 – sparking an unbeaten home run that lasted for the remainder of the 2017-2018 season.
