Opposition View: Bristol Flyers

Scorchers return to action for the third home game in succession as we welcome the Bristol Flyers to Surrey Sports Park.

Lead by England Commonwealth Games Head Coach Andreas Kapoulas, the Flyers sit 2nd in the BBL Cup South Group after six games – winning four of them.

In the reverse fixture the Flyers fought back from a 17-point deficit to defeat Creon Raftopoulos’ team 107-99 in the season opener.

On that night in Bristol, Canadian guard Gentry Thomas led the Flyers with 35 points and 11 rebounds.

His battle with Scorchers guard Chip Flanigan will be the key match-up this weekend as Scorchers look to gain revenge.

Both sides head into the game following wins last time out.

Scorchers defeated the London Lions 80-77 in a thriller at Surrey Sports Park, while the Flyers won 93-76 on the road in Plymouth on Sunday.

Adrian Kuyinu believes Scorchers are improving and ‘owe the flyers’ after the defeat earlier in the campaign.

He said: “We are making a lot of improvements.

“Our defence is there, our offence is there, and we just have to do it for 40 minutes.

“We owe the Flyers now, we went there and were up by 17 points, and we let them come back.

“So we’ll have a little extra motivation when we see them.”
