Ogedengbe signs for Scorchers

6’4" guard/forward Tayo Ogedengbe has become Surrey Scorchers’ first signing after putting pen to paper ahead of the 2015/16 BBL season.

28 year old Ogedengbe, who began his professional career with London Capitals in 2007, will bring a wealth of basketball experience to the club having played under Scorchers Head Coach Creon Raftopoulos at Guildford/Surrey Heat, and will also be Team Captain during the upcoming campaign.

The England international went on to feature for both London Lions and Glasgow Rocks during the 2013/14 and 2014/15 seasons, also spending time in France’s Nationale Masculine 2 with Calais.

Notching an impressive 15.3ppg average for Rocks last season, Ogendengbe’s arrival marks a huge statement of intent from Coach Raftopoulos, who will be looking to build a squad from scratch capable of reaching the BBL Championship Play-offs.

Tayo was unveiled at a Fans’ Evening at Surrey Sports Park last night, with over 80 people in attendance to welcome him to the club and hear from Coach Creon and Franchise Director Gavin Baker.

Following his signing, Tayo was positive about his future at Scorchers: “When Creon and Gavin approached me I had a tough decision to make. It’s important to me to play for a club with the right infrastructure and support.

“With the support of the coach and Surrey Sports Park, I know I have made the right choice. I have a great history playing with basketball in Surrey and I absolutely love playing in front of the fans and on the court here.
“I can’t wait to get to work with Creon and the rest of the team to build a positive future for Surrey Scorchers.”

Coach Creon was full of praise for Ogedengbe when talking to Surrey fans last night: “I’ve seen Tayo develop and mature into the best British player in the BBL.

“He will be a valuable asset at Scorchers- acting as a strong leader for the young guys and a captain who wants to win games.”
