“New Team, New Look” – Tayo On New Scorchers Shirt

Even before the first tip-off of 2019-20, Scorchers Captain Tayo Ogedengbe had already made a huge impact on the new BBL season.

Tayo’s vision for a new Scorchers jersey has become reality, as the team becomes the first in the league to adopt sleeves on their playing shirt.

“I’ve been playing with the idea for a while. For me it just signifies a fresh start,” admits Tayo. “Last year we didn’t accomplish what we needed to, so for me it’s a new team, new squad and a new look.

“It’s something fresh for the fans, too – we play a winter sport, so being in a vest isn’t always the best. Now they can stay a bit warmer, so it helps both players and fans!

The design had to be ratified by the BBL, but Tayo is confident that his design will inspire other teams in the future.

“Scorchers are a forward-thinking club, and we don’t always follow the trends,” he states, “so it’s something to set us apart and separate us from the crowd. It might not be to everyone’s taste, but this is what we do, we set trends. I like moving things forward.”

And what about the reaction of perhaps the harshest critics amongst the Scorchers, his team-mates? “It’s something different and I’ve got good feedback from all of my team-mates. So far everyone loves it.”

Scorchers will wear their new home shirt this Saturday, as they host Worcester Wolves at the Sports Park Arena, with a 7pm tip-off – and we will confirm details of how to buy your own shirt as soon as possible!
