Surrey Scorchers have awarded Jeremy Nanton-Hamel a contract for the 2019-20 BBL season.
The 20-year-old, 6ft 8 power forward and centre featured in five BBL games last season and says: “I’ve been training and developing with Coach Creon for the past two years now, and this is an excellent opportunity for me. This feels like a big step, because I hope to take a more important role in the team and continue my development.
“I only really thought about becoming a professional basketball player two years ago, when I realised that I could go somewhere (in my career),” admitted Nanton-Hamel, who was born in Chertsey and also lived in the Caribbean and France before returning to Surrey aged 18. “I used to be a swimmer and only started playing basketball when I was 15, but I’ve worked hard for the last two years to get to this level and now I want to keep going as far as I can.”
On his strengths, Jeremy suggested: “I think I bring some energy to the team, I’m quite quick for a guy my size, spacing out the floor and increasing the range.
“I’m really looking forward to playing in front of all the Scorchers fans, and hopefully I can get a consistent role in the team and some minutes under my belt – that’s my first objective.”
