Former Guildford and Surrey Heat player Albert Margai will return to Surrey Sports Park this season having today signed for Scorchers.
The 28-year-old point guard will be a familiar face to some Surrey basketball fans having made 64 appearances for Heat in two seasons, leading his side to a top 4 spot during the 2012/13 campaign.
Margai made the move to the London Lions in 2013, before heading to NBL division 1 outfit the Essex Leopards where he captained the side to the regular season title in his 2nd season with the club.
Upon signing Albert said: “I am really happy to be back at Surrey. I thoroughly enjoyed my time here previously, largely thanks to the fans and I am grateful for the opportunity to work with Creon and his coaching staff again.
“I want to take this opportunity to thank the Essex Leopards for an unforgettable 2 years, but my focus is now on getting to work with Surrey and building a strong chemistry with my teammates as we go out to bring home a trophy for the amazing Surrey fans.”
Head Coach Creon Raftopoulos added: “I am delighted to be welcoming Albert back to the Sports Park this season. He is an absolute gentleman on and off court and will bring a wealth of leadership quality and experience with him.
“He was a firm favourite with Heat fans a few seasons ago and I expect that they will welcome him back with open arms come the first game on the season in just under a month.”
Tickets for the opening night fixture against Margai’s former club, London Lions, are on sale now from £11 for adults and £7 for juniors and students. Season tickets are also still available for those who don’t want to miss a fixture this season!
