Surrey Scorchers are delighted to welcome American small forward Marcus White for the 2019-20 BBL season.
The 23-year-old from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, who stands 6ft 6 tall, spent the 2018-19 season with the LoKoKo Bisons in the Finland First Division (A), having graduated from Dickinson State University in North Dakota in 2018.
With the Bisons he averaged 22.81 points per game – the fifth best in the league – along with 8.3 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.95 steals. Career-high single-game stats with the Bisons included 17 rebounds, 36 points and 6 assists as he was named in the All-Finish First Division first-team.
In an outstanding collegiate career, White led the Dickinson State Hawks to a Conference Championship and was named All-American Honorable Mention in his junior year, as well as featuring in the 2016-17 NSAA First Team All-Conference. His senior year then brought a Conference Championship game, and further appearances in the NSAA First Team All-Conference and All-American Honorable Mention selections.
“I’m very excited to be joining the Surrey Scorchers,” admitted Marcus. “I felt like this was a great opportunity for me to get better and learn a lot from Coach Creon. I’m going to give my all, so that we can win as many games as possible and have a good season.”
Scorchers Coach, Creon Raftopoulos, shared White’s enthusiasm: “We are extremely excited about adding Marcus to our roster. He’s a strong, athletic player who is comfortable playing as a guard or forward. He is a natural scorer in the half-court, and is exciting to watch in transition.
“Marcus has always accepted the role of defending the opposing team’s best scorer and can defend the post when needed. In his first professional season he showed a glimpse of what he’s capable of, and the step up to the BBL is a challenge he’s excited about and didn’t hesitate to accept.”
