Last one on the road

Scorchers hit the road for the last time this season heading down to Bristol Flyers. Flyers of recent hitting form and punching in their ticket to the play-offs as they rise up the table in the back end of the season.

 

Scorchers with another man down after Jules Dang-Akodo left the game early against London Lions on Wednesday night and would not suit up. He joined Lamar Hamrick, Stanley Davis Jr and Desmond Ringer on the injury list.

 

Getting awarded with his first start of the season young Scorchers Academy product Ryan Gannicleft joins the line up to get us underway in Bristol.

 

Thomas-Edwards opens the scoring for the Flyers with a 3-pointer. Raftopoulos attacks the hoop and with eyes in the back of his head finds Devin Thomas for a corner 3 to respond.

 

Both teams shoot a high volume of three pointers in the opening minutes of the game before Bristol settle down and look to take the size advantage inside as Wanliss comes off the floor for Scorchers.

 

As we hit the half-way mark in quarter there isn’t a lot to separate the two teams as Bristol take a narrow lead by 2 points.

 

Scorchers rotate the bench with McLemore and Wilkins coming off the bench and having an immediate impact as McLemore strokes a 3 ball and attacks the hoop to finish at the rim.

 

Flyers being the number 1 ranked rebounding team in the league take full advantage of the size mismatch and remain in the lead by crashing the offensive boards and finishing off second chance points giving the home side the lead after the first quarter.

 

Scorchers not letting Bristol extend further as Wilkins keeps the energy high on both ends of the floor. Captain Tayo Ogedengbe rolls back the years with a huge dunk down the lane to bring the game within 7-points.

 

Bristol responds with one of their own as Miller finds a rolling Delpech for a tomahawk dunk to get the Flyers fans on their feet.

 

A sloppy possession from Scorchers sees a fast break dunk at the other end and coach Creon is forced to call a time out as Bristol lead by 10 points.

 

Flyers begin to stretch out a 43 – 28 leads with 2 minutes to go. Caylin Raftopoulos picks up a technical foul and the momentum shifts to the home side.

 

Bristol led 46 – 30 to finish the first half.

 

Devin Thomas gets the Scorchers going with a mid-range pull up to begin the 2nd half as Scorchers look to chip away at the deficit.

 

Flyers step into another gear and get out in transition to blow the game open as they take a comfortable 57 – 32 lead after a triple from Jacobs.

 

Thomas continues to go to work for Scorchers knocking down a 3-pointer and another mid-range to move to 18 points as Coach Kapoulas is forced to call a time out.

 

Scorchers unable to find the net to end the 3rd quarter and Flyers continue to pile on the points from all areas of the court as the home side are in full control leading 71 – 42.

 

The 4th quarter is dominated by Bristol as its all-Flyers action. Simmons swipes away everything at the rim and the Flyers find arial finishes to stamp on Scorchers hopes.

 

Frustration rises for coach Creon as he picks up a double technical which would see him leave the arena for the final 4 minutes of the game.

 

With the game well out of reach Scorchers play hard until the final buzzer with a worthy performance from American Devin Thomas leading the team in scoring with 21 points and 8 rebounds.

 

Final Score 95 – 55.
