Tony Hicks has been named as Molten BBL Player of the Month for the second consecutive month.
The Scorchers point guard celebrated his birthday month in style by guiding Creon Raftopoulos’ side to three wins out of four in March as they continue their push for the play-offs.
Hicks scored 19 points and added six assists and three steals as Scorchers annihilated Leeds Force at Carnegie Sports Centre.
He then helped Scorchers to defeat the BBL leading scorer, Jaysean Paige, and the Newcastle Eagles 93-79 in front of a packed home crowd. Hicks scored 16 points and added nine assists and seven rebounds.
His best performance in March came on the road in Manchester where Hicks poured in 33 points and 11 assists to tame the Giants 96-94.
After being informed of winning the award for back-to-back months, Hicks said: “It feels really good. It’s an honour to have people think of me so highly, just being the underdog or second best my whole life.
“But this honestly is a team award, if we don’t win games then there is no chance that I get this award.
“My favourite game was definitely the Manchester game. For me being a point guard I care so much about my assist to turnover ratio and that game it was 11-2 which is something I’m really proud of.”
Scorchers have been in blistering form and have won 10 of their last 13 games. They sit sixth in the BBL standings with five games remaining,
Hicks is confident that the team can keep the good form going into the post-season.
He added: “When you look at our schedule I do think we should be able to win the majority of those games and that will go really well for us heading into the playoffs.
"I’m excited to see where we land in the standings going into May.”
