Hicks handed Molten BBL Player of the Month gong

Surrey Scorchers’ playmaker Tony Hicks has had his blistering form recognised after being handed the Molten BBL Player of the Month award for February.

The guard has been on fire during recent weeks, posting a number of exceptional performances and stuffing the highlights reel with an array of exciting and entertaining plays.

Hicks topped the performance efficiency chart with his efforts and this helped Surrey to go through February unbeaten.

He was the leading scorer in the BBL Championship with a massive 26.3 points per game, helped by a jaw-dropping 69% from the floor.

Hicks also led the league in assists, handing out a dazzling 9 per outing. But it wasn’t only offence where he showed out. He also did the business at the defensive end of the floor by grabbing 2.7 steals per game.

Upon receiving the award, Hick said: "“It’s an honour to be named Molten BBL Player of the Month, especially for me being a pro.

"This just shows the push, help and guidance I’ve received from my teammates and coaches. I just feel more comfortable and confident with every game because of them. I’m not really into individual awards in a team sport but I am truly blessed and honoured.

"However, we all have much more work to get done. Go Scorchers!”

Head Coach Creon Raftopoulos will take his side to bottom of the table Leeds Force on Friday evening (30th) for a 7.30pm tip-off as Scorchers look to bag their 4th straight league win.

Scorchers will then go in search of their 7th win home victory in a row when they host the Newcastle Eagles at Surrey Sports Park on Sunday 25th March, with a packed-out home crowd expected to back the hosts towards the BBL Play-Offs.
