HICKS FEELING MORE COMFORTABLE

Tony Hicks was named the BBL Player of the month for February as he guided Scorchers to wins in all three of their league fixtures.

The 23-year-old led the league in both points and assists in February as he averaged 26 points and nine assists, as well as adding 2.7 steals per game.

Scorchers toppled the Manchester Giants, Bristol Flyers and Cheshire Phoenix in February as the race to the BBL Playoffs continued.

Their offence significantly improved as they scored over 100 points in all three victories, a feat they had only achieved once earlier this season away at Glasgow.

Hicks said: “I just feel a lot more comfortable than I did earlier in the season, but that’s just from practicing every day with my teammates.

“I just try to be as efficient as possible and that’s what I’m really trying to do each game.

“I really just think that we are executing on a higher level than we were earlier in the season.

“It’s really been our defence because we really score off of our defence a lot. It’s when we can get a rebound and push the ball where we win games.”

Scorchers do not play for another week as the other teams across the league play their games in hand.

Unbeaten in their last four games and yet to lose at home in 2018, Hicks believes that the team is peaking at the right time.

He added: “We’ve always had the same goal which was to try and give ourselves the best chance possible to win every game by playing hard and playing the right way.

“If we continue to do that then everything will keep going how it is going. Hopefully we can be one of the top teams in the league when the playoffs start.

“We know that it’s a possibility and it’s something that we look forward to.”
