Guildford’s Wilkins signs for Scorchers

Surrey Scorchers have added shooting guard Henry Wilkins to the roster ahead of the 2015/16 British Basketball League (BBL) season.

The 24 year old spent three seasons with Leeds Carnegie [now Force] whilst completing his degree, where he became a National Cup Final hero by bringing Leeds back from a 12 point deficit in the last two and a half minutes of the game to secure his side the 2013 title.

Wilkins went on to sign his first pro contract following his graduation, joining Danish outfit Team FOG Naestved in Denmark’s top flight pro league, before spending last season at C.B. Villarrobledo in the Spanish Primera Division de Baloncesto.

The Guildford-born 6’5” player is the 8th player to commit to Surrey this season, joining Aldershot’s Will Neighbour as Scorchers’ local talents.

Upon signing Wilkins said: "It's a big thing being able to play in my home town. I was born in Guildford, raised in Guildford. Having my family and friends here week in week out will be a special experience.

"This town has a long history of having great basketball fans and I can't wait to be playing in front of them at Surrey Sports Park."

Tickets for all Surrey Scorchers matches, including the first home game against Newcastle Eagles on Friday 25th September (7.30 tip-off), are on sale now at www.surreyscorchers.co.uk, with news of a pre-season friendly due to be announced this week.
