Recap

It was a frustrating night in Worcester for Scorchers as we were defeated in our opening BBL Championship fixture.

Creon Raftopoulos’ side headed into the game without Ryan Richards, Sol Rolls-Tyson and Jeremy Nanton-Hamel – who each continue to recover from injuries.

New signing Lovell Cook made his debut and impressed with 16 points.

Scorchers were made to pay for a difficult first quarter as we were held to just seven points, all scored by Skyler White.

Baskets started to drop in the second period, but Worcester continued to pound the paint thanks to Amir Williams – giving them a 47-24 lead at the break.

Scorchers improved after the break and it was new signing Lovell Cook who led the charge, scoring three consecutive baskets to rejuvenate the offence.

Caylin Raftopoulos had to leave the court after rolling his ankle while driving to the basket.

Academy product James Reeves entered the game in the fourth quarter and held his own to gain some valuable BBL minutes.

Scorchers won the final quarter 26-19, but it was too little too late, as Worcester took the 93-75 victory.

We are back in action tomorrow as we host the Bristol Flyers at Surrey Sports Park.
