Surrey Scorchers crashed out of the BBL Cup on Friday evening following a disappointing 93-64 loss on the road at the DBL Sheffield Sharks.

Recap

Head Coach Creon Raftopoulos welcomed Brit Jordan Williams back into the roster after his re-signing earlier this week, but his season debut passed by without a key moment as Sharks inflicted a clinical defeat on Surrey.

The hosts led from the opening exchanges, building a 9-0 lead early on. Sharks pushed their lead to 15pts towards the end of the period, with more than double the points of their opponents on the board (25-10).

MPU

Scorchers showed quality to peg Sheffield back to a 9 point game mid-way into Q2, but with Christopher Alexander looking hot at the basket for Sharks they couldn’t stop the home side from extending their lead to 19pts at the halfway mark (51-32).

There were moments of brilliance from Scorchers, including a Daryll Palmer defensive rebound to feed Alex Owumi for a 3-pointer from range in Q3, but Sheffield were deserved of their spot in the next round of the competition.

Q4 saw Sheffield build as much as a 31pt lead in the latter stages, as they saw the tie off and handed Scorchers a killer defeat on the road.

Scorchers are back at home on Sunday afternoon when they host the Bristol Flyers in a 2pm tip-off in the BBL Championship. Click here for ticket news and to buy online now.
