Surrey Scorchers return fan favourite Dean Wanliss for the 2022/23 Season

The 32-year-old returns to the Scorchers side for another season in the BBL. Wanliss, known for his relentless energy on and off the court was a fan favourite throughout his time as a Scorcher last year.

The experienced forward was the only squad member to make an appearance in all BBL championship games. His ability to stay healthy made him a vital part of the team executing any role called upon him when needed.

This was displayed against London lions with a season high 17 points and 9 rebounds in just 22 minutes of play in one of the closing games of the 21/22 campaign.

Wanliss excited to return said “I am happy to be returning to the franchise and having another year with our fans. It will be the first time playing under Coach Gardner in the BBL and I am looking forward to it.”

No stranger to Lloyd Gardner, Wanliss played under Scorchers new Head Coach during his time at Barking Abbey in NBL division 1 before returning to the BBL.

Scorchers Head Coach Lloyd Gardner commented: “Dean is a valuable addition to our squad. He has proved his ability to produce when needed at the BBL level and provides leadership to our younger players.

“I’m delighted to be reunited with him again after working together in the past and think that his experience in this franchise will be a great addition to what we are trying to achieve.”
