DBL SHARKS SHEFFIELD 99-94 SURREY SCORCHERS

Surrey Scorchers lost an overtime thriller in Sheffield, losing 99-94 to the DBL Sharks.

Despite being down by double-digits after the first quarter, the Scorchers fought back and a three from Alex Owumi sent the game to overtime.

Sheffield won overtime convincingly to hand Scorchers their first loss of 2018.

Tony Hicks lead the scoring for the Scorchers with 28 points, followed by Tayo Ogedengbe with 21.

DBL Sheffield Sharks pulled away to a 28-15 lead after the first quarter.

Creon Raftopoulos’ side pulled back to within seven points at the half thanks to an impressive offensive display from Tony Hicks.

Scorchers took control and took the lead in the third quarter as Hicks and Ogedengbe continued the offensive charge for the away side.

This set up an intense fourth quarter with both sides exchanging the lead. Sheffield led with three points in the dying moments, before Alex Owumi drained a three to send the game to overtime.

Both sides had to dig deep in the extra five minutes, with some big plays from Josh Steel and Hicks to keep Scorchers in it.

But it was the Sharks who found the extra gear to win the period 15-10, winning the game 99-94.

Next up for Scorchers is a meeting with the Plymouth Raiders at Surrey Sports Park.
