January 9, 2018 by Surrey Scorchers

Creon Raftopoulos has expressed his delight after Surrey Scorchers opened their 2018 account with two big wins at home.

Scorchers defeated Leeds 92-65 on Friday in front of the BBC cameras, which followed an impressive 82-80 victory against the London Lions in a New Year’s Day Classic.

“I know I sound like a bit of a stuck record but December wasn’t great for us so to start January with two wins is great.”

“I think this is a really pivotal part of our season. We’ve got a lot of games coming up so we need to get as many wins as we can.”

Every Scorcher was on the scoresheet against Leeds, with no less than five players scoring in double figures. Coach Creon stressed the importance of players trusting each other’s abilities.

“I think it’s important within the group that everybody trusts what each other are capable of.”

“We’ve got a lot of guys that can contribute so at different times it can be different people stepping up.”

“Naturally as a player you want to be the one who does the job because it’s your job on the line, but we are trying to pump in that team ethos and hopefully we can move forward from there.”

Scorchers now head into a double-header weekend, travelling to face DBL Sharks Sheffield on Friday night before returning to Surrey Sports Park on Sunday for a game against the Plymouth Raiders
