Surrey Scorchers add American Guard Jaylen Ray to the 2022/23 roster

Surrey Scorchers are delighted to announce the signing of American Guard Jaylen Ray

Jaylen Ray is the first American signing of the season and joins the Scorchers for his professional debut out of NCAA Div1 Hofstra University, New York.

The 6’2 guard has graduated and spent all 5 collegiate years at Hofstra. With a 21-11 record last season, Ray averaged 13 points and 3 rebounds whilst shooting an impressive 40% from deep.

The Hampton native found success with the team in the 2019/20 season leading the squad to NCAA March Madness after dropping 17 points in the CAA championship final.

The Sharp shooting guard is ranked second in programme history for most 3-pointers as well as a school record in the greatest number of games played across a Hofstra collegiate career with 153.

Jaylen excited to start his career at Scorchers commented “I’m feeling anxious to get started but I am honestly grateful to Coach Lloyd and the Scorchers organisation for the opportunity.”

“I’m really looking forward to showing the fans and the league what I can do, but most importantly I want to bring a winning mentality to this team.”

Scorchers Head Coach Lloyd Gardner commented: “I’m delighted to be welcoming Jalen to the scorchers. I believe he will be an excellent addition to our team and bring the leadership and scoring ability he has shown through his collegiate career to the BBL.

We are excited about his addition to our team and look forward to him starting his professional career here in Surrey.”
