The Scorchers Basketball Foundation is the charity arm of the Surrey Scorchers. We run projects for the disadvantaged and disabled, bringing people together and improving lives through basketball in Surrey, North East Hampshire and East Berkshire.

We provide a range of innovative basketball opportunities including:

  • Basketball4All – Roadshows that encourage entire Year 5 groups from local Junior schools (up to 90 children) to get active.  Followed by establishing local hubs to allow the children to continue playing.
  • Inactive Girls – Female only sessions for Senior school girls aged 13 and over who are not regularly engaged in sport.  Monthly tournaments are played against other schools.
  • Inactive Boys – For Senior school boys aged 13 and over who are at risk of crime and/or are not taking part regularly in sport. They will participate in tournaments, playing against other schools.
  • NEETs (Not In Education, Employment or Training).  The aim is to engage young people who are free during the day, keeping them active and away from electronic devices.

·         Learning Disability – Sessions for young people and adults over 14 with learning disabilities. Larger events and tournaments are run throughout the year.

  • Excluded teenagers – We work with special schools and colleges to help young people who are not in mainstream school engaging them in physical activity and bringing in the players as good role models.
  •  Home Educated children – For young people under 13 who are out of school.  Giving them the opportunity to play a team sport and get to gether with their peers.
  • Mainstream School children – We organise basketball sessions that suit the school.

Would your business like to make a big difference to local school children?

We are looking for sponsors for our Basketball4All roadshows, Inactive Girls and Inactive Boys basketball leagues. As well as helping young people get active, build confidence and learn new skills, your business will also get exposure to up to 90 local households per session.

“As a company, people see our name and see what we do. But it also means that it provides something great for the kids. It puts money back into the community, and we can help build a community together.” Michael Brown, Basketball4All sponsor.

This season we have been successfully awarded over £30,000 in grants.

A huge thank you to our funding partners, Sport England, Energise Me, Community Foundation for Surrey, Walton Charity and Magic Little Grants who have helped us expand our projects this season.

Going forward we need to gain support from funders, businesses and the community to make all these sessions SUSTAINABLE in the future.  We do not want to let the young people down by sessions having to cease due to lack of funds.
