Atwood joins Scorchers

Surrey Scorchers is delighted to announce the signing of US import Willie Atwood for the 2018/19 BBL Championship season.

The 24-year-old forward has spent the past two seasons in Europe after graduating from Arizona State in 2016.

After averaging 8.4 points-per-game in his final year of college, he headed to SAM Basket Massagno in Switzerland, averaging 8.4 ppg and finishing with the third highest 3P% in the league.

After a year in Switzerland, Atwood averaged 11.3 ppg with Enosis Neon Paralimni in Cyprus.

As Creon Raftopoulos’ third US import, the Scorchers head coach spoke of Atwood’s basketball pedigree.

“It’s always exciting to get someone of Willie’s experience.

“He’s had two years in Europe and having those years of professional experience will only help us and give us a little bit more going forward.”

Atwood brings versatility to an already exciting Scorchers squad for the 2018/19 season.

“He’s capable of shooting the three-ball but quite comfortable with playing his back to the basket so I’m really excited about this acquisition.” said Raftopoulos.

Atwood and his teammates open the season by hosting Glasgow Rocks at Surrey Sports Park on Saturday 22 September.

Reading Rockets to visit in pre-season friendly

Scorchers will take on the Reading Rockets in a pre-season friendly at Surrey Sports Park on Sunday 9 September (2pm Tip-Off).
