Surrey Scorchers have signed American-born Guard Adrian Kuyinu for the 2019-20 BBL season.
The 27-year-old Texan also holds a British passport, and was one of the stars of the Leeds Force roster in the second-half of the 2017-18 season with a team-leading average of 15.5 points per game.
Kuyinu’s basketball education came at John Brown University in Arkansas, and with Missouri Baptist University Spartans, whilst he spent 2018 with Arcos Albacete in Spain’s LEB Plata.
Scorchers Coach, Creon Raftopolous, said: “We’re excited to have Adrian join us for the upcoming season as he has the ability to play the Point Guard and Shooting Guard positions. His strength and ability to defend multiple positions helps us improve in a defensive area that hurt us last season. Having coached against him in his time with Leeds Force, we know he will have no problem adjusting to the style of play in the BBL. He’s also a team-first player that will easily fit into our team culture.”
“I’ve had my eye on the Scorchers for some time now,” admitted Kuyinu. “Creon and I have spoken since last summer, and now is the perfect opportunity to show what I can do for the Club and the community. I really enjoyed playing in the BBL with Leeds Force, and I remember playing here at the Sports Park, and it was one of my better games – one of the first things I noticed was the atmosphere, and how engaged the crowd was.
“That’s one of the biggest reasons why I decided to come here, the support that the fans have for the Club. I’ve been looking for that for some time in a Club, and I think I’ve found that here. It’s always easier to go out there and perform when you have the fans supporting you and backing you.”
