Despite the final score, the Scorchers took the lead early on in the match when Quincy Taylor finished off a good move with a 2. The Lions hit back almost immediately, and Surrey soon found themselves 5pts behind. Taylor was doing his best to keep the team fighting, as first, he scored a 2 and then hit a 3 to leave Surrey just 2pts behind their opponents. However, a run of 12 straight points for the Lions saw them leading 21-11, with 3 minutes still on the clock. A double-double from Will Neighbour and a 2 from Mike Ochereobia helped keep the scores close but at the end of Q1 the Lions lead 29-19.

The Lions started Q2 strongly racing into a 36-21 lead. Taylor and Kalil Irving shared a 3 each to keep the scoreboard ticking for the Scorchers, but some quick play from the home side saw Surrey trailing 41-27 with 5 minutes gone in the quarter. Chaz Rollins and Will Neighbour helped reduce that lead, but some more good play from the Lions saw them end the first-half leading 49-35.

The first two-quarters had not gone the Scorchers way, but they were determined to make a game of it after the half-time break. An early double from both Irving and Ochereobia started the proceedings until Taylor grabbed hold of the match and scored an impressive 10 points in a period where the Lions only picked up 1 themselves to leave the Scorcher trailing 52-49. However, just when it looked like Surrey had the momentum, the Lions went on a run of 10 straight points. They continued to score for fun ending Q3 leading 70-56.

Trailing by 14pts the Scorchers knew that Q4 would be an uphill battle. A quick double-double from Rollins started the Surrey scoring before the Lions took the initiative with 9 straight points, as they went into the final 4 minutes leading 85-66. A Free Throw from Tayo stopped this scoring run, but another streak of points helped the Lions end the game strongly, with the match eventually finishing 103-73.
