Surrey Scorchers were on the wrong end of a crushing BBL Championship defeat on Friday evening as the Glasgow Rocks secured their play-off berth with a 65-103 win at Surrey Sports Park.

The visitors continued their excellent win streak with by brushing aside a depleted Scorchers side, who had just 6 fit players in the roster for their 4th game in a week.

Missing US imports KC Ross-Miller and Nick Schlitzer to injury, Coach Creon Raftopoulos knew he would have a tough task on his hands against an in-form Glasgow side, who looked dangerous from the off with a quick 1-8 burst in the opening exchanges that allowed them to take a 20-26 lead into the first break.

Lekan Popoola looked lively in Q2, reducing the deficit down to just 2 points with a bucket from downtown, but the signs of hope were momentary for the hosts who struggled to keep up with the fresh legs Glasgow were able to provide on court. The Rocks led 40-56 at half time.

A dry run of baskets for Scorchers continued either side of the midway break, with Rocks notching 20 unanswered points to really put the game beyond Scorchers. Captain Tayo Ogedengbe stopped the rot with a 2, but the momentum stayed with Glasgow who led 49-80 at the end of the 3rd.

Scorchers’ never say die attitude was still present despite the evident tiredness on court as they battled right till the final buzzer but were unable to prevent the Rocks from hitting the century and taking a 65-103 win back across the border.

Mike Anderson enjoyed a positive outing despite the result, taking 16pts from his full 40 minute game. Ogedengbe led the home scorers with 19pts.

Scorchers go into their 5th BBL Championship game in 9 days on Sunday with a long trip to the Cheshire Phoenix for a 5.30pm tip-off.
