Surrey Scorchers bagged a vital victory on the road on Sunday evening, with a 73-74 win over the Manchester Giants.

The win sees the Surrey side complete a clean sweep of wins over the now bottom of the table side this season, allowing them to come off the foot of the league in the process.

With confidence from that Good Friday thriller against the Leicester Riders, Scorchers would have been looking to take the points against the Giants. But even from the tip-off it was evident both sides had the same plans, with the lead sitting at no more than 4 points until an Okoro 3 put Manchester 7 ahead early on, before Surrey pegged them back to 6 at 26-20 at the first break.

A sleepy start to Q2 for the visitors allowed Giants to build their lead at 15pts with 3.20 left on the clock, only for a K.C. Ross-Miller 3 to drive Surrey into a 2-9 run in the closing minutes to reduce the deficit to 45-37 at half time.

The momentum continued to flow in favour of Scorchers at the start of Q3, tieing the game at 49-all midway into the quarter thanks to a Ross-Miller-Anderson-Schreiber link-up. Giants continued to hold a slender lead, but at 60-58 heading into the final stanza it was either side’s for the taking.

The game remained evenly poised during the opening minutes of Q4, before Nick Schlitzer rewarded Scorchers’ hard work for their first lead of the game at 63-65. Anderson added two from the line in the closing seconds to guarantee the win for Scorchers – their first since the beginning of February.

All five of Surrey’s starters reached double figures in the win, with Ross-Miller taking 17pts home plus an impressive double-double for Jordon Williams with 13pts/10rbs.

Scorchers return to Surrey Sports Park this Friday evening for a 7.30pm tip-off against the Glasgow Rocks – their penultimate home game of the 2015/16 BBL Championship season.
